Good Things Happening in Our Schools:

Academy of International Studies Holds Ribbon-Cutting
The Academy of International Studies in Hamtramck – one of the 31 new charter schools in Michigan this year – held its official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday. Several student groups performed at the event, and the keynote address was given by Cindy Schumacher, Executive Director of the Governor John Engler Center for Charter Schools at Central Michigan University, which is authorizing the school.

The new principal of the school, which serves a culturally diverse student body in grades K-5, is Robert Davis. The school is managed by the Hanley Harper Group.

Shown here, a group of first-graders performs during the ribbon cutting ceremony.
