FlexTech High School Student Works to Bring Teen Center to Brighton
A student at FlexTech High School in Brighton has been spending the summer working to bring a teen center to his community. Scott Mixer, 14, is using a lot of the lessons he learned during his freshman year at FlexTech (a blended-learning school with a project-based focus).
Scott is fundraising for his new non-profit organization with the hope of bringing a teen center to downtown Brighton.
With the vision of creating a collaborative workspace for teens, The Colab, short for collaboration, will be a welcoming spot for students in the community.
Right now there's just no real good place to go for students," Mixer told Brighton Patch. "Brighton is a great city, but we want a place just for students."
To help raise funds for his project, Scott received approval from the City of Brighton for a peddler's permit to start Colab Coffee, a mobile coffee cart that will be placed in front of various business locations during community events.
Scott also started a Facebook page to provide updates on the project. You'll find the page here.
For more on Scott's project, see the story here.

A student is more likely to retain information delivered to them when they have asked for it. This training is designed to help you teach your students how to use this technique to gain a better understanding and a deeper learning.
