Good Things Happening in Our Schools:

Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology Holds a Star-Studded Back-to-School Rally
The Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology welcomed staff and students back in a big way on Aug. 17 – with a performance by the R&B boy group Mindless Behavior at the school's "Back to School Rally."

"This is actually our 15th year holding the rally and to be able to bring one of the top R&B groups in the country right now to be a part of it is just amazing," said Marvin Sapp, a pastor and gospel singer who founded the charter school. "I wanted to do something different for our community and set a fire under our young people.''

Last fall, Sapp opened his performing and fine arts school, the Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts & Technology, located at 600 Burton St. SE. The charter school is expanding this fall from sixth through eighth grade to pre-kindergarten through ninth grade. The plan is to add a grade each year through 12th grade.

The Grand Rapids Ellington Academy of Arts and Technology is authorized by Lake Superior State University.
