for Initial Evaluation and Initial IEP Training Webinar
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services (OSE-EIS) will offer a Webinar training on the Michigan Special Education One Pager: Timeline for Initials, as a follow up to the first in a series of documents, published November 10, 2009. This 60-minute Webinar is available on either Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7:00 pm or on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 9:00 am. This learning opportunity is part of a series designed to provide accurate and authoritative guidance in a timely and efficient manner on critical issues effecting special education in Michigan today! This Webinar, presented by the OSE-EIS, Program Accountability Policy Unit, clearly explains the basic content, process, and required timelines necessary to correctly complete the Initial Evaluation and the Initial Individualized Education Program (IEP) in Michigan. The Webinar will include an overview of how to count days to meet the required timeline for initials. This is a must-attend event for parents, all teachers (general and special education), school administrators, building principals, advocates, state agency personnel and representatives, educational organizations, charter school staff, institutes of higher education, attorneys, charter school authorizers, charter school management companies, CIMS planner-monitors, data personnel, MAASE, MAPSA, MASSP, MASSW, MEMSPA, MI3 Improvement Initiatives, and anyone and everyone interested in improving public education. Education Directory Available
The 2010 edition of the Michigan Directory of Service Providers for Infants, Toddlers, and Students with Disabilities is now available on the Center for Educational Networking Web site. You can download the complete directory or specific sections in a PDF format. The directory is intended for parents, educators, and other service providers seeking resource information related to the educational needs of children, students, and clients. The directory contains contact information about resources for children ages birth to three with special needs and their families (Michigan's Early On® population) and students ages 3-26 with disabilities. Listings include special education and Early On administrative personnel in local and intermediate school districts (ISDs), specialized schools, and public school academies (charter schools). The directory is not meant to be a comprehensive list of all personnel, but instead provides basic contact information for administrators and others who provide services to infants, toddlers, and students with disabilities. The directory also contains contact information for the Michigan Department of Education, Michigan Department of Corrections, Michigan Department of Community Health, Michigan Department of Human Services, Michigan local public health departments, neonatal intensive care units, and Michigan and national agencies, associations, and organizations. September 16, 2009 2009-10 NASDSE Professional Development Series The National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) will hold a four-part Professional Development Series in 2009-10 featuring information on high-interest topics from nationally recognized experts. The Center for Educational Networking, a mandated activities project of the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Early Intervention Services, has purchased the rights to bring this series to Michigan. School personnel at the intermediate, local, and public school academy levels, as well as parents, and organizations, can view the series during the 2009-10 school year via satellite or streaming media at no cost. 2009-10 Conference Schedule: Friday, October 9, 2009 :: 1-3 pm ET Friday, December 4, 2009 :: 1-3 pm ET Friday, March 19, 2010 :: 1-3 pm ET Friday, May 7, 2010 :: 1-3 pm ET All access information, including satellite coordinates and login information for the Web version, will be provided to CEN by NASDSE approximately two weeks before each conference.
