Dear SEA Charter Directors,
The Office of Civil Rights
recently released a Dear Colleague letter December 26, 2007 from
Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights Stephanie Monroe addressing the
rights of students with disabilities to participate in schools and
school districts accelerated programs, such as Advanced Placement and
International Baccalaureate classes or programs. The letter reminds
school districts that students with [learning] disabilities are eligible
to take part in advanced academic programs and do not forfeit their
right to special education services by enrolling in such classes.
