Contacting Your Legislators is As Easy As...

1	Confirm the name and address of your local elected officials. Your school and your home addresses may have different representatives --contact all the legislators for both addresses! To find out who your legislators are and how to contact them please visit http://www.house.state.mi.us/LocateRep.asp#Locate_Rep to locate your state representative or http://www.senate.state.mi.us/SenatorInfo/find-your-senator.htm to locate your state senator. To find out how to contact the Governor, please go to: http://www.mi.gov/gov/0,1607,7-168-21995---,00.html
2	Write a short letter to your representative. Use this format for the address: The Honorable [First Name] [Last Name] Michigan State Senate                                    Michigan House of Representatives P.O. Box 30036                         or                  P.O. Box 30014 Lansing, MI 48909-7536                                 Lansing, MI 48909-7514 Dear Senator [Last Name]: or Dear Representative [Last Name]: Keep your letter to one typed page. Explain why you are concerned, and ask for specific legislative action. Build a case for why the legislator should support your cause. Use as many specifics as possible. Be honest, direct and passionate. Consider including a signed list of action team members or others involved with your school, although it is preferable to have each of them write their own letters.
