Charter Schools of Excellence
Each year, Michigan charter schools vie for the prestigious School of Excellence Award, through an application process that concludes with a high-level panel of judges making on-site visits.

- 2005 -- Detroit Edison Public School Academy in Detroit. "It's very important as parents that we seek out the best education for our children. When you walk in the building, you should feel 'This is the place I want my children to be.' ... We stress integrity, respect, courage and hope. All students at DEPSA know excellence is an expectation."
- 2004 -- West Michigan Academy of Arts & Academics in Spring Lake. "Public charter schools by definition have a focus. ... There's a spirit of excellence here. It's an environment for active and exciting learning. Arts and academics are not just something in our title or logo. They're something we deliberately work on bringing out in the curriculum."
