Meet the State’s Top Charter School Educators - Semifinalists Named for Charter School Teacher and Administrator of the Year

LANSING, Michigan (March 16, 2017) – The process has begun to name the 2017 Michigan Charter School Teacher and Administrator of the Year, as the semifinalists for the prestigious honors are being announced today by the Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA), the state charter school association.

The list includes outstanding charter school educators from every corner of the state – from Detroit to Benton Harbor to Boyne City.

There are more than 10,000 charter school teachers and more than 1,500 charter school administrators in Michigan, and nearly a thousand nominations were received for this year’s awards. A panel of judges reviewed all the submissions and narrowed down the list to 25 teachers and 10 administrators, who are now the semifinalists for the awards.

The judging will now intensify, as the judges further review each teacher and administrator. During the week of March 27, the five finalists for each award will be announced in a live video on MAPSA’s Facebook page. Those educators will be invited to Lansing to be honored and will be featured in videos on MAPSA’s Facebook page. The overall winners of each award – the 2017 Michigan Charter School Teacher and Administrator of the Year – will be announced during National Charter Schools Week in early May.
