DFT crisis forum on Thursday
The Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) is sponsoring a "Crisis Committee Forum" at 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 16 at Frederick Douglass High School (2001 W. Warren Road). The purpose of this public forum is to address the financial and academic crisis facing the Detroit Public Schools. As a result of losing nearly half of their students in the past decade,
DPS recently provided layoff notices to 300 personnel, while upwards of
1,700 teachers and staff will eventually be released, according the
district's Deficit Elimination Plan filed with the Michigan Department
of Education. Anyone with an interest in the future of education in Detroit is encouraged to attend. Click here for additional information from the DFT website.
