Gleaner's has been serving the Southeastern Michigan since 1977 by building strong, collaborative partnerships with others in the community and are continuing to do so with the two programs listed below. 

Afterschool Meal Program for Detroit Area: Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is funded by the USDA and provides healthy meals and snacks to children participating in afterschool programs. Gleaner’s is a sponsor for community sites in partnership with the Michigan Department of Education. A free supper and evening snack are provided to children between the ages of 6 and 18 with a minimum of 50 children being supported and fed at qualifying locations within the Detroit area. To participate in the program there needs to be afterschool enrichment activities such as arts and crafts, homework assistance, life skills, computers, remedial education and non-competitive sports

Summer Food Service Program for Detroit Area: The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is funded by the USDA and provides healthy free meals for children in need of food during the summer, when they lose access to school meals. During the summer of 2012, the Summer Food Service Program served 136,445 meals to 4,200 children within the Detroit area.
