Michigan's passionate and diverse charter school teachers, leaders & advocates
relentlessly work to cultivate a tomorrow in which every student has access to an
inspiring, innovative and meaningful K-12 public education that prepares them for our
modern world.
Less regulation, not more regulation will improve academic quality. Michigan
can not and has not improved the quality of its public schools by regulating
them. Charter schools are public schools and are regulated as such currently.
We favor reducing regulation. We do not see expansion of regulation as a
means of improving student achievement in these new public schools.
Accountability of schools is based on student performance and parent demand.
Michigan’s charter schools are created on a foundation of unprecedented
academic accountability, with parent choice and student achievement as
cornerstones.
Parental choice in public schools should be expanded. We believe every child
matters and every student deserves a multitude of quality education options.
Federal law requires education choice for parents trapped in chronically
underperforming public schools.
There is a need for high quality educators to supply quality schools. They must
be educators who best meet the needs of all students. This will require
proactive, creative and prompt new innovations and ideas for alternative paths
for teacher certification.
