Ten outstanding educators from throughout Michigan have been honored as finalists for the 2021 Michigan Charter School Teacher of the Year and Administrator of the Year Awards.
The semifinalists were announced two weeks ago, and the finalists were announced on March 28 (the Teacher finalists) and March 29 (the Administrator finalists) via social media.
Michigan is home to over 10,000 charter school teachers and more than 1,500 charter school administrators statewide. Hundreds of nominations were received from parents, teachers, school leaders, and even students who wanted to recognize the incredible educators working in our urban, suburban and rural communities across the Mitten.
Ten semifinalists in each category were announced earlier this month. And now we’re introducing the five finalists for each award.
The five finalists for the 2022 Michigan Charter School Teacher of the Year award:
- Tina Craven, Holly Academy, Holly, K-8 intervention coordinator and academic coach
- Amy Dunlap, Michigan Connections Academy, instructional coach
- Megan Nyland, Summit Academy North Middle School, Romulus, middle school math
- Patrick Ritt, Light of the World Academy, Pinckney, grades 4-5
- Jolika Welborne, University Prep Science and Elementary School, Detroit, kindergarten

The finalists will be honored in Lansing in the coming weeks and the winners of the 2022 Michigan Charter School Administrator of the Year and Teacher of the Year awards will be announced in May.
