Michigan's Fiscal Year 2017-2018 budget is finally complete. The Governor signed the budget on Monday, July 14, 2017.

MAPSA's number one budget priority is funding equity for all charter schools. With the help of over 1,000 charter school staff and parents that reached out to law makers, MAPSA was able to continue to work on closing that gap.

As you may recall, the House originally proposed a budget that did narrow the equity gap. Because of all of our hard work, the 2x funding formula was reinstated.

  • Foundation allowance increases for charter schools are $120/pupil.
  • High school students get an additional $25/pupil.
  • 31a at-risk funding definition was expanded to include not only free lunch pupils, but also reduced lunch pupils, and the amount was increased to $777/pupil.

Thank you for taking the time to contact your legislator about funding all kids equally for their education. Your outreach, and that of over 1,000 fellow charter school supporters, has paid off! Tell your lawmaker that you are thankful for the work that was done to help narrow the funding gap between students, but it isn’t complete and you will be fighting for equity for all students!
