At MAPSA, our small team works relentlessly to drive innovative public education reform through strategic advocacy, communications, and outreach. Every member of staff plays a critical role in our day-to-day, and we count on each other for the kind of creativity, innovation, and hard work that powers our exciting ideas. If you love a challenge, go the extra mile, and prioritize building strong team relationships, this might just be the place for you.
Grassroots & Outreach Intern (20 hrs/week)
MAPSA is seeking a dynamic Grassroots & Outreach Intern to bolster our efforts in legislative engagement, scheduling, communication, and organizing events such as Charter Schools Week. As an integral part of our team, you will collaborate closely with the MAPSA team to develop and implement outreach strategies, engage with legislators and community stakeholders, manage schedules, and assist in communication efforts through various platforms.
This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in advocacy, grassroots organizing, and event coordination while contributing to our mission of advancing education reform and supporting charter schools. Is it the right role for you? It is if you possess strong communication and organizational skills, have a love for details and data, a passion for education advocacy, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Bonus points for experience with Google Drive, Canva, and Slack - and especially government relations!
We are seeking someone who can begin as early as August 2024 and continue supporting our team through the school year, possibly longer if it's a good fit. Scheduling is flexible, and pay is based on experience.
To apply, send your resume and cover letter to humanresources@charterschools.org.
Tech Requirements: This role requires a strong home internet connection as well as familiarity with digital platforms such as our CRM, email, advocacy software (Salsa), and professional development platform (Mighty Networks). MAPSA runs on Macs, and each full-time employee is provided a MacBook Pro and iPhone to use for work purposes.
Work Environment: We are a "remote-first" company, meaning all of our internal tasks and processes can operate in a virtual capacity, most often from our home offices. Full-time team members are required to attend in-person meetings at our Lansing office location. Travel, other than to the office, is reimbursed.
Work schedule: MAPSA’s office operates from 8-5 PM EST, however, we offer our team a flexible work schedule when needed.
Healthcare: We offer full-paid healthcare for individuals (dental, vision, and health insurance plans) plus an FSA option to contribute to medical expenses for full-time team members.
Benefits: MAPSA believes in self-care and work-life balance and to that, we offer a generous PTO policy, competitive salary, and 401(k) with a 3% match from the company for all full-time team members.
MAPSA invests in building greater cultural competence and responsiveness across our team by supporting ongoing reflection, learning, skill-building, and positive actions. We know that culturally competent teams, especially when inclusive of individuals who share the racial, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds (e.g., first-generation college-goers) of member schools’ student populations, are best equipped to take action to ensure fairness inside and outside of MAPSA. To that end, we believe in building a richly diverse and inclusive organization, including a mission-critical imperative for all staff to both model and contribute to the vision we hope to achieve.
You're self-aware and respectful - of our team, our members and the people you're engaging with. Each of us works together to represent MAPSA in a way that reflects our values.
You're innately curious, and constantly evolving. You aren't afraid to try new things, strive for improvement, or ask, "what can be done to increase the impact of my work?"
You're willing to problem-solve to the best of your ability before asking for help or answers. You understand that our team's time is precious, and everyone is accountable for working through solutions.
