The Michigan Association of Public School Academies ("MAPSA," "we," "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.

It applies to charterschools.org, our events (including the MI Charter School Symposium), our email communications, our online community, and our mobile event apps (together, our "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

Information you give us, such as when you register for an event, become a member, sponsor or exhibit, subscribe to emails, submit a speaker proposal, or contact us:

Name, job title, organization, and school
Email address, phone number, and mailing address
Event registration details, session selections, and dietary or accessibility requests
Profile information, photos, and messages you choose to share in our online community or event apps
Payment information for registrations, memberships, and sponsorships (processed by our payment providers; we do not store full card numbers)

Information collected automatically when you use our website or apps:

Device and browser type, IP address, and general location (city or region)
Pages viewed, links clicked, and time spent
App usage, such as sessions bookmarked and activity check-ins
Information from cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies and analytics)

How we use information

We use your information to:

Register you for events and provide event services, badges, and materials
Manage memberships, sponsorships, and exhibitor relationships
Support our sponsors and partner organizations, including sharing contact information as described in How we share information
Send confirmations, updates, newsletters, and information about MAPSA programs and advocacy (you can opt out of marketing emails at any time)
Operate our online community and event apps, including networking features
Process payments
Improve our website, events, and Services
Keep our Services secure and comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

How we share information

We share information only as described here:

Service providers who help us run our Services, such as Cvent (event registration and mobile apps), Mighty Networks (online community), email, CRM, and payment providers. They may use your information only to provide services to MAPSA.
Other attendees, when you choose to make your profile visible or interact in our community or event apps.
Sponsors and exhibitors. As part of our sponsorship program, we may share event attendee and member information, such as name, job title, organization, and school; we do not share email address, phone number, or mailing address with MAPSA sponsors and exhibitors. You may choose to share your information by letting a sponsor scan your badge or visiting their booth in the app. You can opt out of sponsor sharing at any time (see Your choices and rights).
Allied organizations. We may share contact and organizational information, including email address and phone number with partner organizations that support charter schools and public education, such as state or national charter associations, authorizers, and coalition partners to coordinate advocacy, events, and programs. Where possible, these organizations agree to use the information only for purposes consistent with MAPSA's mission.
Legal and safety reasons, when required by law or needed to protect the rights and safety of MAPSA, our members, or others.
Organizational changes, if MAPSA is involved in a merger, reorganization, or transfer of assets.

Mobile event apps

Our event apps, including the MI Charter School Symposium app, are built and hosted by Cvent on MAPSA's behalf. When you use them, Cvent and we may collect:

Profile information you enter, such as your name, title, organization, photo, and bio
Messages, posts, and photos you share with other attendees
Activity, such as sessions you save, check-ins, and points earned in games and leaderboards (your name and score may be visible to other attendees)
Device information, such as device type, operating system, and app version
Push notification tokens, if you allow notifications

You control what goes on your profile, and you can turn off push notifications in your device settings. Cvent's handling of information is also described in the Cvent Privacy Policy.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the site, and measure the results of our emails and outreach. We use analytics tools such as Google Analytics and HubSpot for this.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work properly without them.

Your choices and rights

Email: Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email. We may still send messages about registrations or transactions. Please understand that if you unsubscribe, we will no longer be able to include you in newsletters and important updates.
Profile and app settings: Edit or hide your profile, and manage messaging and notification settings, in the app or community.
Sponsor and partner sharing: To ask us not to share your information with sponsors or allied organizations, email mapsa@charterschools.org with the subject line "Privacy Request," or check the opt-out box when you register. Opting out won't undo sharing that has already happened.
Access, correction, and deletion: Ask us to see, correct, or delete your personal information, including your event app account and its data, by emailing mapsa@charterschools.org with the subject line "Privacy Request." We will respond within 30 days.

We may keep some information when we are required to by law, or for legitimate purposes such as financial records.

Data security and retention

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes in this policy, such as maintaining membership and event records, or as required by law.

Children's privacy

Our Services are intended for adults, including educators, school leaders, and education professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us, and we will delete it. We ask schools to collect photography & videography consent from all students and help us to abide by it while in your buildings.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page with a new effective date. For significant changes, we may also notify you by email or in our apps.
