Free preschool and community college for everyone in Michigan? What are the odds of that - and who’s going to pay for it? Gov. Gretchen Whitmer laid out her priorities for 2024 in her State of the State speech last week, and our panel is here to react. Our hosts are joined by Alicia Urbain, MAPSA’s Vice President of Governmental and Legal Affairs, as they discuss what these educational innovations might mean for Michigan’s charter school community. Alicia also offers a look ahead at what we might find in the governor’s upcoming budget.

Hosted by:
  • Bernita Bradley of Detroit, the Parent Voice Director of the National Parent Union.
  • Kayla Campbell, elementary educator and literacy specialist at Creative Technologies Academy, a charter school in Cedar Springs. (On break for this episode.)
  • Julie Buchholtz, Academic Assessment Specialist at the Lake Superior State University Charter Schools office in Sault Ste. Marie.
  • Dan Quisenberry, President of the Michigan Association of Public School Academies (MAPSA).
